The OMP Running Challenge 2019
Running for a good cause
The start of a new year is the perfect time to make new resolutions, introduce new habits and start working towards new goals and challenges. Sometimes it’s professional, sometimes it’s personal.
Earlier this year, Anita Van Looveren, our CEO, issued a professional challenge to all our colleagues around the world: let’s connect by running together for a good cause. The company pledged €20 to charity for every 1 km run at a series of global events.
“2019 is the year of connections at OM Partners,” explains Anita. “And we wanted this challenge to bring us together in new ways, making personal connections across the company and having fun at the same time. Plus, we hope to raise a lot of money. Imagine, if the 500 people working at OM Partners all run 5km, that would be €50,000 for charity.”
How far have we run?
The challenge started with the Reeuwijkse Plassenloop in the Netherlands on a stormy March day. We are equally impressed by the fact that 73% of our Dutch office ran either 5, 10, or 15 km raising €2,200 for charity, as we are by the silver medal that Harmen Perk received for being second to cross the 5 km finishing line. Thank you all for kicking off our running challenge in such style!
Happily for our French colleagues, the Soli’Run in Paris took place on a sunny day in March. Our eight French colleagues each ran 10 km raising €1,600 for charity, plus the registration fees from the Soli’Run went towards helping “Habitat et Humanisme”, a local charity which is dedicated to finding housing for people in precarious situations.
As home to our head office, big things were expected from the Belgian team – and we weren’t disappointed. 129 runners took part in the iconic Antwerp 10 Miles, running a total of 1,460 km in the 5 km, 10 miles and marathon, raising an amazing €29,200 for charity. The good news doesn’t stop there. Benoît Goethals came second in the Antwerp 10 Miles with a time of 49:15, and OM Partners came second in the BDO Company Ranking!
June saw our Chinese colleagues running the Happiest 5K on the Planet – also known as the Color Run. As well as having lots of fun and being covered in powered colorful paint, the team raised a fantastic €500 for charity. Well done everyone!
Where are we running next?
In August our German colleagues will be hitting the streets of Cologne as they run 5 km, 10 km or a half marathon as part of the SportScheck Run CGN race. We wish them all the best!
August is going to be a busy month, as our Brazilian colleagues will also be running. Our entire Brazilian office will be running 5 or 10 km or walking 3 km in the Corrida villa Lobos, in the stunning Villa-Lobos park in São Paulo. 100% participation – it doesn’t get better than that!
The United States
And, in October we’ll be cheering on our American colleagues as they speed their way through the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler and 5K. The 10 Miler includes conquering the (in)famous Cardiac Hill, which runners tackle as fast as they can. We’re sure our colleagues are up for the challenge!
